Shrines of the Companions (Jordan Valley)

The resting places of Abu Ubaidah, Mu'adh ibn Jabal and other Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, many of whom died in the plague of Amwas.

The Jordan Valley holds one of the richest concentrations of Companions' shrines in the Islamic world. Abu Ubaidah Amer ibn al-Jarrah, one of the ten promised Paradise, commanded the Muslim armies in Syria and is buried near Deir Alla; Mu'adh ibn Jabal, Shurahbil ibn Hasana, Dirar ibn al-Azwar and Amer ibn Abi Waqqas rest nearby.

The shrines are quiet mosques with gardens, well kept by the Ministry of Awqaf. Visits are respectful and can be combined with the Cave of the Seven Sleepers in Amman or the battlefield of Mu'tah in the south.
