About this experience
Head south from Madaba across the plateau to Umm ar-Rasas, where the mosaic floor of St Stephen's Church shows the cities of the Holy Land, and a stylite tower rises from the plain.
Then drive to Mukawir and climb Herod's hill of Machaerus, where John the Baptist was imprisoned, for a view over the Dead Sea. The day ends in the steaming canyon of Ma'in, where hot mineral water pours over the rocks.
