Wadi Rum is a protected area of 720 km², a UNESCO natural and cultural site where granite and sandstone mountains rise from red sand. Its rock art and inscriptions record 12,000 years of human life, and its landscapes stood in for Mars and Arrakis in Hollywood films.
The Zalabia Bedouin who live here drive visitors by 4×4 to the Lawrence spring, the Khazali canyon inscriptions, the red dunes and the natural rock bridges of Burdah and Um Fruth. Stay a night in a camp to taste zarb cooked under the sand and see the Milky Way.
