Mu'tah & the Companions' shrines

Site of the Battle of Mu'tah (AD 629) and the shrines of Ja'far ibn Abi Talib, Zaid ibn Haritha and Abdullah ibn Rawaha.

Mu'tah was the first great battle between the Muslims and the Byzantine Empire. The three commanders appointed by the Prophet ﷺ fell here one after another before Khalid ibn al-Walid led the army safely home.

At Al-Mazar al-Janubi, a beautiful mosque complex holds the shrines of Ja'far al-Tayyar, Zaid ibn Haritha and Abdullah ibn Rawaha. It is easily combined with Kerak Castle, 15 minutes away.
